Statement from the OxHRH Calling for Oxford University to Rescind the Sultan of Brunei’s Honorary Degree

by | Apr 7, 2019

We at the Oxford Human Rights Hub strongly support calls to rescind the Sultan of Brunei’s Honorary Degree in Civil Law. Oxford University should express our condemnation of the abhorrent provisions in the new Penal Code in Brunei in the strongest and most unequivocal terms. We call on the University to move as quickly as possible to remove the Honorary Degree, which should only be held by those who respect the fundamental human rights and values of all people which are at the core of our institution.
