Prof Fredman, Director of the Oxford Human Rights Hub, presented at the launch of the book ‘Transformative Constitutionalism’ on 14th March 2014 in Sao Paulo, Brazil
The launch event was hosted by GV and Conectas Human Rights LAW. The book Transformative constitutionalism: Comparing the apex courts of Brazil , India and South Africa, is published by the University of Pretoria and organized by Prof. Oscar Vilhena (Director of SGS and founder of LAW Conectas) Prof. Upendra Baxi (University of Warwick, UK ) and Frans Viljoen (Director of the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa).
Co-authored by Prof Sandra Fredman, (University of Oxford) the book makes important contributions to the role of superior courts in three countries in the assertion of rights recognized in the constitutional charter of each. By covering several themes – gender, socioeconomic rights, land rights and the role of civil society – the work highlights the importance of establishing a horizontal dialogue between the countries of the Global South about the transformative constitutionalism.
